About the album

This album features 6 original compositions and arrangements written for a large mixed voice choral group, performed by The Indian Choral Ensemble, composed and arranged by Kalyani Nair. The choral arrangements have intricate 6-8 part harmonies while the melodies have an Indian flavour which has given rise to a new age, contemporary choral sound to the whole album. In addition, the varied guest feature collaborations in each of the tracks, ranging from world class orchestras like Budapest Scoring Orchestra to well-acclaimed solo instrumentalists from India like The One Man String Quartet and addition of band instruments like Acoustic Guitars, Electric Bass, Drums and Keys by notable Indian musicians, makes the album unique.

About

This song reiterates the fact that “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”. We always admire the beauty outside, only to realize that the reason behind this external beauty is the actual beauty that radiates from within ourselves. This feeling of self love is brought out through the lyrics and arrangement of the song, done for a lead female solo and a large mixed voice choral group, accompanied by a big string section and a tight 2-piece band of Keys and Drums. The arrangement is very unique as the main melody has an Indian flavour that builds over intricate and rich chord progressions appearing in the choir and strings. The addition of the band to this lush choral and string section makes the sound of the entire track very different from regular song arrangements.

About

This is a lullaby sung by a mother in awe of her child. This track is written for a large mixed voice ensemble accompanied by a String Quartet. The main chorus of the song has several melodies strongly rooted in an Indian raaga named Kalavati, overlaid on one another to create a rich 6-8 part choral section. The second section of the song features the entry of the string quartet accompanying the choir, that becomes more intense as the song progresses. The whole song is built on the words “nam tham” inspired by the percussive  syllables used in ‘tarana’, a form of music sung in the Hindustani style of Indian classical music, until the final section of the song that features a lyrical solo melody in Hindi, describing the feeling of a mother being awestruck at the beauty of her new born child. The interesting blend of Indian, choral and contemporary elements in the song gives it a truly global quality and makes it unique.
